Chorus members do not have to travel with SANS to be a part of the SANS Chorus. Both travelers and non-travelers are expected to participate in Boston-area SANS concerts (usually 4 to 6 per year).

All Chorus members are expected to:

* Sing on pitch and in tempo in a choral setting.

* Learn and memorize the repertoire of approximately 12–15 songs and be prepared to have selected repertoire memorized for performance. Recordings of some pieces will be available on the web site. Members are encouraged to record their own parts during rehearsals. If you have challenges with memorizing the music, please discuss this with the Music Director.

* Attend rehearsals regularly. Attendance will be taken for rehearsals and concerts by the section leaders. If you know you will not be at a rehearsal or concert, let your section leader know by phone or email. Find out what happened at any rehearsal you missed so that you are prepared for the next time we work on the pieces.

* Practice your music at home; the Music Director will suggest specific pieces or sections of pieces for practice.

* Read and listen to information provided at rehearsals and/or in emails. This will allow us to minimize the number of documents we have to publish and announcements we have to make. If you do not have access to email, please let us know.

* Pay the annual dues for chorus members of $225, including music, following attendance at three rehearsals. Installment payments may be arranged with the SANS treasurer.

If musical ability or attendance is in question, the Music Director will assess and determine the person’s level of participation in the chorus.

For Concert Participation

* Ability to sing the concert repertoire.

* Singers may not miss more than two rehearsals in each session or the dress rehearsal before a performance. The Music Director will assess and determine the level of participation in concerts, if the member’s attendance and/or familiarity with the concert repertoire is in question.

For SANS Travelers

* Members of the traveling chorus must make trip payments according to the published schedule.

* Members of the traveling chorus are required to sing in all concerts in the United States and must attend all rehearsals and concerts while traveling. If you are unable to participate due to illness or for some other reason, you must discuss this with the Music Director.

Travelers on Sharing A New Song’s 2012 tour must be prepared for any or all of the following physical demands:

* Lengthy travel times, sometimes with delays.

* Each traveler is responsible for carrying his or her own suitcases throughout the trip, sometimes under time constraints. If an elevator is unavailable, you may need to climb several flights of stairs with your luggage. Travelers must travel light and cannot expect help with luggage

* Walking on lengthy tours, or over uneven ground.

* Singing in halls or churches that may not be air-conditioned and may be hot.

* Standing in concert for up to two hours, sometimes standing on risers.

* Occasionally getting only six hours of sleep, if a bus ride or airline flight warrants an early morning departure, and we’ve had a concert and social evening the night before.

* Standing around for an hour or more waiting for someone, or for something to happen, without an easy place to sit down.

* Allergies may be a problem for you depending upon the area we are visiting.

SANS cannot be responsible for people’s health and ability to meet these vagaries of travel. If you have any questions about your ability to handle such physical demands, you should speak with your doctor and get his or her approval before signing up for the trip.
