SANS pursues its mission of friendship and connectedness through song in other countries every year when we travel abroad, but we also engage in outreach here in our own community. We have performed at retirement homes, at shelters, and at local festivals, in collaboration with other Boston-area choruses and by ourselves.
This year, we performed with other groups at RiverSing in Cambridge; at Rosie’s Place, a women’s shelter in Roxbury; at the Italian Home for Children in Jamaica Plain; and at the Visiting Nurse Assisted Living Community in Somerville.
Every few years, SANS hosts a chorus from one of the countries we have visited. Most recently, we have hosted two choruses from South Africa, a country to which SANS feels strongly connected and in which we have built lasting relationships. Too, we maintain a continued connection with our friends in the Houma Indian Nation in Louisiana.

Bottom left: Sinikithemba, a chorus of HIV-positive singers from South Africa, gave a joint concert with SANS and the Boston Community Choir in Cambridge.
Bottom right: SANS members entertain at a local nursing home.
