Singwith

The music we sing ranges from classical to Broadway, spirituals to folk. Each year, we learn some music of the country and cultures to which we will be traveling. We’ve sung in English, Estonian, Latvian, Russian, French, Italian, Afrikaans, Chinese, Zulu, Yiddish, Spanish, Vietnamese, Portuguese, and other languages.

Music performed in the last few years includes Gloria from a Mozart Mass; “Dirait-On,”a poem by Rilke set by Morten Lauridsen; “Choose Something Like A Star” by Randall Thompson/Robert Frost; Tschaikovsky’s “Nochevala Tuchka”; the Gospel piece “Total Praise” by Richard Smallwood; spirituals such as “My Lord What A Mornin’”; selections from Carmen, Big River, Porgy and Bess, Rent, and West Side Story; a “Motown Medley”; a Jamaican folk song; the Cuban piece “Hay Quien Precisa”; and South African Zulu and Xhosa songs, including “Masithi Amen" and “Thuma Mina.”
