Sharing A New Song is a community chorus founded in 1983 to promote closer relationships between peoples of different countries and cultures—initially for sharing with choruses in the former Soviet Union. Its diverse membership is drawn from the Greater Boston, Massachusetts area and includes teachers, engineers, psychologists, students, professional musicians, retired seniors, "shower" singers; high school students and octogenarians (and everywhere in between). In any year, some will be new to SANS and some will have traveled with the chorus on previous trips.
In trips to Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Siberia, Armenia, Estonia, Latvia, China, South Africa, Cuba, Vietnam/Cambodia, and the USA, hundreds of singers have shared experiences and created lasting friendships through music. In addition to its tours, SANS has promoted a number of exchanges with directors, choruses, and other musical groups from many of these regions.
Above, SANS members sing and dance with their hosts in Yaroslavl, Russia in 2004.
