Where are we going in 2009-2010?
Cuba—December 2009
Our license from the U.S. Government to perform in Cuba arrived, ten months after we applied for it! SANS 2008–2009 Chorus members will travel to Cuba during the first week of December, 2009. Travel arrangements and itinerary are works in progress.
Russia—June–July 2010
Join Sharing A New Song for an exciting adventure to Russia from June 23 to July 11, 2010. We will travel to Moscow and Zelenograd, where we will sing with friends in the Kovcheg Chorus. Next, we will travel to Yaroslavl to celebrate that city’s millennium with choirs from Yaroslavl and other cities in a song festival concert. We’ll visit the nearby cities of Tutayev and Uglitch, where we will sing with local choruses. Visits to homes and banyas (Russian saunas), and singing at a music school, a summer camp, and an orphanage will round out our days in Yaroslavl.
Next, we’ll begin our journey to Siberia. We’ll fly to Bratsk, where we will sing with a chorus there. From Bratsk, we’ll board the Trans-Siberian Railway, offering SANS travelers a glimpse of Siberian life and scenery. A stay in Irkutsk will offer much in Siberian culture and history.
We’ll stay on Olkhon Island on Lake Baikal, with time to explore this beautiful island and to experience life in the Buryat fishing village of Khuzhir, where we will offer a concert for this village of 1,200 islanders. We’ll travel to Ulan Ude, the capital of the Buryat Republic, where we will visit Ivolginsky Datsan, the center of Buddhism in Russia; and sing at an Ethnographical Museum. Our stay in Ulan Ude will end with a concert, before returning to Moscow for a flight to Boston.
